The Indian Pacific train has been a bucket list item for a few years now so definitely had to be the first item on the itinerary now the pressures of work are no more.
As it was one of those at the top of the Bucket list we decided to splash out and go for the platinum option, this comes with chauffeur limousine from your hotel to Sydney’s Grand Central Station. The cabin on board the train is also slightly larger than Gold class with fold down double bed, bathroom with separate shower and extra courses on the menu.
The limousine picked us up at 10.15 a.m. for the trip to Sydney Central where on arrival after a swift check in we were dined and entertained while the train was prepared and loaded for its 2.55 p.m. departure.
The trip from Sydney to Perth sets of 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and will arrive in Perth Saturday afternoon not the fastest form of transport (our return flight to Sydney was 4 hours 10 mins) but that is not what this experience is all about. It’s seeing all the beauty Australia has to offer from a unique and time gone by perspective.
With our glass of champagne 🥂 we started to pull away from the platform but only to shortly come to the first of our many stops. You see the Indian Pacific is 33 carriages long so has to load everyone over 3 platforms. It then will drive each section out and couple them together which takes its time, also having to fit in with the commuter trains that are in and out of a very busy station.
I think were finally done all carriages now coupled we are one long Indian Pacific set for are great adventure to start. Next stop Broken Hill and are first off train excursion. As we head off out of Sydney into the Blue Mountains a storm comes in and there beauty and majesty can know longer be seen would this course us any problems for Day 2 . . .
